About ORVYLAN
An independent magazine for understanding places
ORVYLAN is an independent digital magazine about landscape, geography, and the people who live within them. We publish reporting, routes, and cultural essays; we do not sell trips, packages, or bookings.
Editorial charter
How we report, and what we refuse to sell
Every dispatch is written in considered international English and grounded in verifiable geography, documented history, and first-hand field observation. We favor accuracy over atmosphere, and context over superlatives. Each piece is checked against primary sources, local knowledge, and current conditions before it is published.
ORVYLAN operates independently of travel commerce. We do not accept sponsored itineraries, we do not sell tours, and we do not rank destinations for commission. Our guides and any future downloadable maps or GPX routes will exist to deepen understanding of a place, not to replace the judgment of the reader on the ground.
The masthead
Field contributors and how to write for us
Our contributors include geographers, mountain writers, and documentary photographers who have spent sustained time in the regions they report on. They are chosen for historical care, attention to safety, and respect for the resident communities whose lives shape every landscape we describe.
We welcome proposals from writers and photographers working in our initial regions: Perù, Bolivia, Brasil, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and the European Alps. Send a short outline, a sample of recent work, and a note on your time in the field to submissions@orvylan.com. [Placeholder: masthead names and contributor bios to be added before publication.]
